Blumenau to Barra da Lagoa, Thursday, 21 March 2013, Day 261

What a difference a day makes!

Weather forecast is rain but when I wake up the sun has come out. What a difference a day makes I had a gorgeous day on the bike if they are all going to be like this then Philly may just stay a bit longer 🙂 (Talk about mood swings!)

I had breakfast on the balcony packed Daisy one of my panniers is leaking chronically I am not surprised as there a huge hole where I have bumped them against the scenery on one to many occasion. This is the pannier with my bike stuff in so it is not accessed that often but I had a look today and as it been wet and damp for a while so a pair of gloves had gone mouldy as well as my hiking boots which I have carried for the whole trip and I have never worn! So at my next stop I need to have a look at this and do some cleaning and repairs.

Breakfast Views Nice!

Brigite lady from the hostel wants a photo for her Facebook page she is a funny old bird goes from being the nicest person and great hostess one minute to complete unpleasant and surely person in the next minute I thought I had mood swings well this lady has them to the difference is she is in the hospitality business and I am not this is one of the reason why I do not fancy staying here another night.

Moody and Moody and Daisy!

Heading to Florianopolis and the beaches there but I am doing a loop inland rather than going straight there which turned out to be an inspired call as it was a wonderful run through the countryside it did not rain all day and the sun was shining. GPS was still playing up and it got me down some dirt tracks but the scenery was gorgeous and it was only for some short bits as I had not really planned this part and that I was worried that maybe it would all be dirt but the roads where good with sweeping bend after long sweeping bend all day long and the surface not that bad either making for good riding conditions.

Hit Florianopolis at about 5pm I could have kept going as I was enjoying myself so much and I have found a nice and empty HI Hostel in Barra da Lagoa where I will be for the next couple of days to work on Phillys relaxing and slowing down skills

Philly’s gone Surfing! Back in a couple of Days 🙂

Barra da Lagoa, Friday, 22 March 2013 to Sunday, 24 March 2013, Day 262 to Day 264

Thats me on the left 🙂 not

I have spent the last 3 days attempting to surf. How did that go I hear you all ask, well let me tell you I have found something else that I really enjoy but I have absolutely no talent for but I did have a bloody good time trying to get the hang of this. On the first day there were a quite a lot waves and bloody big ones for a beginner so I spent most of the lesson face planting my muggins in the sea so in short I did not get up on the board once. Seemingly this old boy is not as agile as he used to be I have recollection of being reasonably sporty in my youth but seems I have lost that ability as it takes me forever to pick up new things these days. In surfing the trick is to get from lying flat on the board to an upright position in one fluid motion. You are having a laugh are you not the only fluid motion this old boy has had was when he had the trots in Columbia so I need a plan B as Philly cannot do that move so I need to break it into 2 steps which is not ideal hence the continuous face planting.

Next lesson I need another solution to get this old beached whale standing on a surf board so they bring out the whale size surf board that being one that you use for Surf paddling so its the size of a barn door thus making it much more stable and first time I use this I am surfing baby as it is nigh on impossible not to be able surf on one of these he says as he face plants his muggins again on the next wave! So some slight improvement over the 3 days I may be able to progress back to the normal surfboard if I ever do this again but this is a sport you got to spend a considerable amount of time getting the hang off and doing it regularly or living near a place where you can do this regularly which I do not see happening and there are many other sports I am crap at that I want to work on before I add another one to my list but I will definitely have another bash at this as its quite addictive. So thanks to Josue of Josue Surf School for your patients and an enjoyable 3 days surfing.

Josue my surf teacher cheers mate

I surfed for a couple of hours a day leaving the rest of the day just to relax so I did a lot of walking and just chilling out and reading. I had the room to myself for the first couple of nights, which was nice, but I had company on the weekend.

So 4 nights in the same place I have got itchy feet again so moving on again but I did enjoy my couple of days as a beach bum but perpetual motion is Philly preferred state and I was getting tired of people trying to push me back into the sea whilst pouring sea water over me seemingly there is some kind of likeness between me and a beached whale I myself do not see this likeness!

Barra da Lagoa

Barra da Lagoa to Laguna, Monday, 25 March 2013, Day 265

So any of you know how to drive this thing?

So I am back on the road again first thing I wanted to do was a quick whizz around the island of Santa Catarina I went north first which was pretty uninteresting so I was not going to bother with the South part but I found myself in the wrong lane in Florianopolis so I decided what the hell and I took a look at the south of the island as well which was nicer and less built up so I was glad I did this. Back on the main land destination a place called Imbituba no idea why other than it’s the right distance away for an easy days ride. I had spent quite a while tootling around the island so was about 4pm ish when I rolled into Imbituba. I spent a while looking for somewhere to stay but everything is quite expensive I look both up the coast and down the coast and I ask at lot of places but all to much for Phillys budget. I found the perfect place a Hostel and camping site on the beach but it looked like it had shut down for the winter or the end of the season I thought about camping here anyhow but that thought did not last very long why ? why  because its camping  🙂

So plan B its 40km to Laguna the next town along the coast South so lets give that a try.

There was a tourist office just outside town and they give me an address of a place near the beach and just as its getting dark Philly and Daisy find there new home for the night a very well worn out run down Hotel. Cheap and cheerful and pleasant enough so this will do and a room to myself. Next stop food which is proving difficult as there are a lot of bakeries and place’s selling pasty, sandwiches and hamburgers but I am getting tired of this all the time and just want some simple plain cooking but tonight the best I could do was a chicken burger sandwich after walking around for a while back to me room and tonight’s entertainment a film which was Django Unchained Tarantino latest offering. Nothing special and a very weak plot and his cameo roll with the 2 Aussies what’s that all about. It looks like he is just regurgitating his old films using the same cast from those as well as the sound tracks shuffling it all up and hey presto a newish film. You have to do better than that.

This film critic needs to hit the sack good night.
